The Women Helping Others Thrive governing board is comprised of four seats: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Board meets on a quarterly basis, starting in January, with special board meetings as needed. We are currently looking to fill two board seats: Vice-President and Secretary.
Elections for vacant seats occur every meeting until the seats are filled.
Position Title: Grant Writer
Reports To: Executive Director

The Grant Writer is responsible for identifying funding opportunities and securing financial support for the organization through well-researched, compelling grant proposals. This role works closely with leadership, program staff, and the finance team to develop proposals, manage reporting requirements, and build relationships with funders to support the organization’s mission.
1. Grant Research & Strategy
Research and identify potential funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources.
Maintain a comprehensive calendar of grant deadlines and reporting schedules.
Prioritize opportunities that align with organizational goals and funding needs.
2. Proposal Development
Write clear, persuasive, and tailored grant proposals, applications, and supporting documents.
Develop project budgets in collaboration with the finance team.
Ensure proposals meet all funder requirements and deadlines.
3. Reporting & Compliance
Track awarded grants and ensure timely submission of required reports.
Monitor and document program outcomes and impact for inclusion in reports and future proposals.
Ensure all applications and reports comply with funder guidelines and organizational policies.
4. Collaboration & Communication
Work with program staff to gather information and success stories for proposals.
Coordinate with leadership to align funding requests with strategic priorities.
Maintain relationships with funders, providing updates and building long-term support.
5. Administrative & Record-Keeping
Maintain accurate records of submitted, pending, awarded, and declined grants.
Track success rates and funding trends to inform development strategies.
Proven experience writing successful grant proposals (preferably in a nonprofit setting).
Strong research, writing, and editing skills with the ability to tell a compelling story.
Understanding of nonprofit budgeting and program development.
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Suite; experience with donor databases (preferred).
Experience with government grant applications.
Knowledge of the organization’s mission area (e.g., education, health, etc.).
Familiarity with California funding sources (for a California-based nonprofit).
Hands-on experience managing social media for a mission-driven nonprofit.
Training and mentorship in digital marketing, analytics, and nonprofit communications.
Letter of recommendation upon successful completion of the internship.

The Social Media Intern will support the organization’s online presence by creating engaging content, growing our social media following, and helping tell the story of our mission across digital platforms. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in social media marketing, nonprofit communications, and community engagement to gain hands-on experience while making an impact.
Assist in developing and scheduling content for platforms such as Instagram, X, and Facebook
Contribute to the organization’s e-newsletters by drafting stories, designing visuals, and collecting program updates.
Create graphics, short videos, and captions that align with the organization’s branding and voice.
Monitor engagement and respond to comments/messages in a timely and professional manner.
Research social media trends and suggest new ideas for audience engagement.
Assist with campaigns, event promotion, and fundraising efforts.
Track performance analytics and prepare basic reports on growth and engagement.
Strong interest in social media marketing, communications, or digital storytelling.
Familiarity with popular platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).
Basic design skills (Canva, Adobe Express, or similar) preferred.
